We are a family rooted in hard work, nature, animals, and creating a life centered around the things that matter most.

What began as a small dream built around our love for dogs has now grown into Cedar & Sunflowers Pet Retreat — a family-run boutique boarding experience for both dogs and cats, built right here on our peaceful property in the hills of Barnhartvale.

My husband and I now run the retreat together, combining our shared passion for animals, hands-on care, and creating a calm, welcoming environment where pets feel safe, comfortable, and truly cared for while their families are away.

He’s the hardworking blue-collar backbone behind so much of what makes Cedar & Sunflowers possible — always building, fixing, improving, and helping bring our vision to life — while still having a soft spot for every animal that walks through our doors.
For me, home has always been a sanctuary where warmth, nature, family, and animals come together. Whether it’s caring for our guests, raising our children surrounded by animals and the outdoors, or enjoying the quiet moments at the end of a busy day, I find so much joy in the simple rhythms of this life we’ve built together.

Our spacious climate-controlled private dog suites are thoughtfully designed to provide comfort, safety, freedom, and a calm home-like environment.

Each guest enjoys their own spacious indoor suite equipped with an individual doggy door leading directly to their own fully fenced private outdoor yard with 24/7 access.

Every private yard includes a combination of grass, gravel, and shaded areas, allowing dogs the freedom to relax, roam, sunbathe, or enjoy fresh air at their own pace throughout the day.

Additional suite features include:

  • Spacious climate-controlled indoor accommodations
  • Individual doggy doors with 24/7 access to private outdoor yards
  • Solid walls between suites to reduce visual overstimulation and stress
  • Elevated bedding and cozy resting spaces
  • Personalized feeding, medication, and care routines

Dogs are only socialized based on individual temperament, comfort level, and play style preferences. Whether your dog thrives during group play or prefers one-on-one interaction and solo outdoor time, we tailor every stay to their unique needs.

Luxury Cat Cabins

Our luxury cat lodge was specifically designed to provide a peaceful, enriching, low-stress experience for feline guests.

Each spacious private cat cabin includes:

  • Climate-controlled accommodations 
  • Multiple climbing ledges, shelves, posts, and enrichment features 
  • Cozy hideaways and resting spaces 
  • Private window for natural sunlight and bird watching
  •  Individual cat doors leading to secure private outdoor catios 
  • Private self-cleaning litter boxes 
  • Solid walls between cabins for privacy and reduced stress 

Our outdoor catios are tucked away in the pines, creating a peaceful environment where cats can safely enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and premium bird watching opportunities.

Cats are never mingled with unfamiliar cats during their stay to ensure every guest remains calm, comfortable, and stress-free.

Morning Play & Outdoor Time

Dogs start their day with supervised outdoor playtime and enrichment tailored to their individual comfort levels and energy needs. Whether solo or social, every play session is carefully structured to ensure a safe and positive experience.

Cats begin their mornings with breakfast, fresh litter maintenance, enrichment, and access to their private catios during appropriate seasonal weather conditions.

Rest & Relaxation

Throughout the day, we regularly check in on every guest to ensure they’re comfortable, relaxed, and receiving plenty of individualized attention.

Personalized Care & Enrichment

After exercise and enrichment, pets return to the comfort of their private suites and cabins for rest, meals, and quiet relaxation.

Dogs are free to move between their indoor suite and private yard throughout the day, while cats can relax, climb, lounge, and bird watch from the comfort of their own private cabin and catio.

Evening Wind-Down

Evening routines are tailored to each guest’s individual needs and preferences.

Some dogs enjoy a final outdoor play session or quiet one-on-one time before settling in for dinner and bedtime, while cats enjoy evening enrichment, cozy relaxation, and a peaceful nighttime routine within their private cabins.

Nightly Updates

Once everyone is settled in for the evening, we send photo updates and little summaries of your pet’s day so you can relax knowing they’re safe, happy, and well cared for.

During colder weather, dogs enjoy supervised indoor enrichment and play sessions inside our heated shop space to ensure they remain active, comfortable, and mentally stimulated year-round.

During warmer months, sprinklers, doggy pools, shaded yards, and outdoor enrichment opportunities help keep our guests cool while still enjoying safe outdoor fun.

Our daily schedule may vary slightly depending on the needs and personalities of the pets we have staying with us at any given time. With  limited  suites, we're able to stay flexible and give each pet plenty of one-on-one attention - so no matter the day, your family member will never be short on care, play, or cuddles.
