What began as a small dream built around our love for dogs has now grown into Cedar & Sunflowers Pet Retreat — a family-run boutique boarding experience for both dogs and cats, built right here on our peaceful property in the hills of Barnhartvale.
My husband and I now run the retreat together, combining our shared passion for animals, hands-on care, and creating a calm, welcoming environment where pets feel safe, comfortable, and truly cared for while their families are away.
He’s the hardworking blue-collar backbone behind so much of what makes Cedar & Sunflowers possible — always building, fixing, improving, and helping bring our vision to life — while still having a soft spot for every animal that walks through our doors.
For me, home has always been a sanctuary where warmth, nature, family, and animals come together. Whether it’s caring for our guests, raising our children surrounded by animals and the outdoors, or enjoying the quiet moments at the end of a busy day, I find so much joy in the simple rhythms of this life we’ve built together.

Tucked away in the hills of Barnhartvale, our property provides a peaceful countryside setting where dogs and cats can relax, unwind, and enjoy a calm home-like experience while their families are away.
Unlike larger commercial kennels, we intentionally keep our guest numbers low to ensure every dog and cat receives truly personalized care, attention, and a low-stress experience tailored to their individual needs.
Dogs enjoy spacious climate-controlled private suites with attached outdoor yards, structured play tailored to their comfort level, and plenty of one-on-one attention and enrichment.
Cats relax in their own spacious private cat cabins complete with climbing features, cozy hideaways, and secure outdoor catios tucked away in the pines for bird watching and peaceful relaxation.
Whether a guest is staying for a weekend getaway or an extended vacation, our focus always remains the same: quality over quantity, individualized care, and creating a safe, enriching experience that feels as close to home as possible.

Cedar & Sunflowers Pet Retreat was founded to bridge the gap between high-volume, impersonal boarding facilities and the warm, home-like care that pets truly deserve.
What began as a small boutique dog boarding business on our homestead in the hills of Barnhartvale quickly grew into something incredibly special. After a successful first year of caring for dogs, we realized there was also a need for peaceful, premium cat boarding designed specifically with feline comfort and enrichment in mind.
As our little family business has grown, so has our vision. Today, Cedar & Sunflowers Pet Retreat offers both boutique dog boarding and a luxury cat lodge while still staying true to the values that inspired us from the beginning — small guest numbers, individualized care, and creating a calm, enriching environment where every pet feels safe, loved, and at home.
This journey has also become a true family venture. What originally started as my dream has now grown into something my husband and I proudly run together while raising our children surrounded by the animals, land, and lifestyle we love most.
